Governance

The NRESi operates with a Director, an internal Steering Committee, and a newly developed Advisory Panel.  

The Director is responsible for:
  • managing the day-to-day operations of the Institute;
  • building dialogue with the external community to identify research needs and opportunities where NRESi can provide support;
  • coordinating and promoting opportunities for collaboration among members of the Institute, local communities, government and industry; and,
  • sharing and building the profile and vision of the Institute through outreach and extension.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee reflects perspectives of the members of the Institute and it ensures that the Institute functions in accordance with its vision statement and purpose.

The Director and the Steering Committee work together to:
  • help realize strategic plans and provide direction to NRESi;
  • support interdisciplinary and collaborative project and partnership planning, networking, and development;
  • review applications for membership in the Institute; and,
  • ensure that the perspectives and needs of the members of the Institute are known and integrated into NRESi’s activities.

Advisory Panel


This new committee (TBD) includes representatives external to NRESi’s membership. Appointed members include individuals from UNBC, as well as the broader community. This committee will be responsible for:

(a) Updating the Steering Committee on relevant events and changes in their respective offices or sectors;
(b) Identifying trends, opportunities, needs, and issues applicable to NRESi’s work,
(c) Providing direction in response to questions about natural resource issues,
(d) Collaborating to suggest potential strategies for addressing the trends and/or opportunities identified,
(e) Enable new, productive, and relevant avenues of collaboration among the members of the NRESi and with wider communities.
