Apply for the 2019 Bachelor of Education Program

The UNBC Terrace campus will begin accepting applications to the next Bachelor of Education program mid-November. The next program will begin September 2019. Applications are to be completed online at https://www.unbc.ca/apply/apply-now. If you are planning on applying, it is essential that you do so before the application deadline, January 15th, 2019. This program is:
  • A 2-year program that runs September – April
  • Delivered face-to-face
  • Offered on a full-time basis only (usually 3 days per week)
  • Not offered online or by self-directed study
  • Includes four practicums (local placements are not guaranteed), field trips, and community events
There are three paths to enter the program:
  • Acceptable 3- or 4- year Bachelor Degree
  • 90 credits in acceptable undergraduate course work
  • A UNBC Education Diploma in a First Nations Language and Culture

B.Ed. Teacher Candidates Community Service at the Terrace Public Library

On November 29th our B.Ed. Teacher Candidates will spend two hours at the Terrace Public Library engaging in a variety of volunteer activities. The goal is for the Teacher Candidates to design activities that will support library end-users or patrons. These activities will focus on technological, educational, and aboriginal-content. All are welcome!
Examples of the sorts of activities that patrons can expect the Teacher Candidates to engage in include:
  • assisting with downloads onto a patron’s personal devices
  • assistance finding credible and authentic indigenous materials and resources online
  • assistance in scribing and/or reading a letter
  • assistance in teaching and learning codes through assets available in the library
  • demonstration of helpful apps
  • help researching websites for a particular subject or issue
  • help reviewing or resetting privacy and other settings on devices, social media accounts, etc.
  • help with sending an email
  • internet safety
  • reading a culturally-inspired indigenous book or materials
  • reading stories/books to children, visually-impaired person(s), etc.
  • reading and/or completing an application or form
Interested patrons will be able to book a 20-minute session with one of our Teacher Candidates, or two 20-minute sessions should they require more time.

CCBC History Book Bank

  • From the Canadian Children’s Book Centre (CCBC) with Historical Canada and funded by the Government of Canada comes a database of Canadian historical fiction and non-fiction books. Specific grade levels and age ranges are indicated and lesson plans are available.

The Gathering Place

  • A free teaching resource for Social Science and History, Grades 5-8. Lessons and activities can be found for Canadian culture, identity and symbols; Government, citizenship and democracy; Canadian stories, heroes and celebrations.
