The Northern Medical Program celebrated its twelfth graduating class this spring, the Class of 2019!

The 33 graduating students received a wood shingle and long white coat at the NMP’s celebration at UNBC Prince George campus in early May to mark their transition from students to doctors. The local celebration preceded their formal graduation at UBC on May 22, at which they received their official medical degrees.

UBC graduationThe graduates now move into two to seven years of medical residency and fellowship training (depending on specialty) this summer.

The Class of 2019 included 11 graduates from Northern BC, including eight from Prince George.

Fifteen are entering family medicine residency programs, with most training in rural and smaller centres in B.C. and across the country. Three of those graduates will train in Prince George. The remaining students have matched to a wide range of specialties including diagnostic radiology, emergency medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, physical medicine & rehabilitation, psychiatry, radiation oncology and urology.

The Northern Medical Program is a distributed program site of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC), delivered in partnership with UNBC.
