Booking appointments

  1. Call the office to schedule a pre-booked appointment.
  2. Our receptionist will ask for the nature of your visit to ensure enough time is booked.
  3. Bring your health card, student card, and any pre-existing medical documentation to appointments.

Medical services offered

  • Mental health support and management;
  • Medical assessment and treatment of new and existing conditions;
  • Contraception counselling;
  • Sexual health education and STI testing;
  • Minor procedures;
  • Referrals;
  • Immunizations and immunization reviews;
  • Flu vaccines (in the fall);
  • Naloxone kits and training;
  • And more! If you aren't sure, come ask.

International students

If you are an international student, you will need to be covered by B.C. MSP to utilize our services, the exception being newly arrived international students covered by Guard Me International Insurance within their first 3 months of study at UNBC.

Guard Me International Insurance provides coverage for illness and emergency medical care for International students during the first 3 months of arriving in B.C.

  • Note: does not cover pre-existing conditions.
  • Automatic registration and $190.00 charge to your UNBC student account.
  • Submit claims online.
  • Visit GuardMe or call 1-877-873-8447.

The UNBC Medical Clinic will need your Guard Me International coverage information while you are awaiting your B.C. MSP coverage to commence.

If English is not your first language, translation services are available by phone with the Provincial Health Services Authority.


Medical Services Plan of British Columbia (B.C. MSP)

  • Mandatory enrolment in the MSP Healthcare plan for residents of BC staying longer than 9 months.
  • Three-month waiting period (e.g., if you arrive in January, your coverage begins April 1).
  • Apply online
  • $75.00 per month (may be subject to change).
  • If you delay enrolment, you will still have to pay for the months from when you became eligible.

 Coverage (included but not limited to):

  • Doctor visit or hospitalization;
  • X-Rays and other diagnostic tests;
  • Surgeries; Dressings and bandages;
  • Drugs/prescriptions, while in hospital; and
  • Psychiatrists and various mental health and addiction resources.

Not covered (covered under optional student extended health plan; see further information below):

  • Drugs and prescriptions
  • Dental care
  • Eye exams and glasses
  • Physical therapy/rehabilitation

UNBC student extended health plan

Student extended health benefits help cover costs of pharmacy medications, dental, and other services. This is part of student fees for UNBC students who do not opt-out of the plan. Benefits are through SunLife's "I Have a Plan". For more information:
