Presentation Title: From Bark to Bottle: Unlocking New Antifungals from Nature’s Biodiversity
Presentation Description: The boreal and sub-boreal forests of Northern BC and Yukon, rich in biodiversity, serve as our research focus for uncovering new antifungal medications and pesticides. Our work at the Morgan Lab, UNBC, harnesses nature’s untapped chemical defenses, particularly from microorganisms within these forests, using advanced isolation and analysis techniques to pioneer the next generation of bioactive compounds. This endeavor not only seeks to address the challenge of resistant fungi but also highlights nature’s pivotal contribution to pharmaceutical and agrochemical innovation.
