Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships

Students must apply directly to the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation by December 21st, 2021, 5:00pm EST.

Up to 20 Trudeau Scholarships are awarded each year to support doctoral candidates pursuing research of compelling present-day concern, touching upon one or more of the four themes of the Foundation. Trudeau Scholars are highly gifted individuals who are actively engaged in their fields and are expected to become leading national and international figures.

Area(s) of Study: Humanities and social sciences. Focusing on one or more of the four themes of the Foundation: Human rights and dignity, Responsible citizenship, Canada in the world and People and their natural environment

Value: up to $180,000.00 over three years; (annual stipend of $40,000.00; annual travel allowance of $20,000.00).

Eligibility: 

1) You must be already accepted into or in year one or two of a full-time doctoral program, and expected to complete your doctoral studies in 2025 or later.

2) Your field of study is broadly related to the humanities or human sciences of direct relevance to the future of Canada; (please refer to the FAQ for more details and read up on past scholarship recipients)

3) Your doctoral work must relate to at least one of the Foundation’s Four Themes: Human Rights and Dignity, Responsible Citizenship, Canada and the World, People and their Natural Environment.

4) Be a Canadian citizen studying at a Canadian or foreign institution, or a non-Canadian (permanent resident of Canada or foreign national) enrolled in a doctoral program at a Canadian institution.
