ABSTRACT:  In this presentation Dr. Gibson explores the concept of heritage as ‘work’ – the active process of keeping the past alive in the present and for the future. She will introduce some of the heritage work that is being done by the villagers of Nikitari, a rural village located in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, Cyprus. Through asking the question, ‘what is important to you about this place where you live?’ She learned how ‘things’, places, practices and stories enliven the past - feeding contemporary identities and reminding people of who they are, were, and might be.
