About the IWAU Award
Inspiring Women Among Us fundraisers like the Femme Fatale fundraiser are critical to the ongoing successful funding of the IWAU Award which was established in the spirit of IWAU. The IWAU Award is a low barrier, non-academic award that all self-identified women students at UNBC are eligible to apply for. Every year, we receive a far greater (6-10x) number of applications than we can currently fund.
Each fundraiser helps us to replenish the IWAU award fund and allows us to provide much valued and deserved awards to applicants. We typical awarded 3-8 awards per year, at a value of $800-1000 each. This represents an important injection of funding to women facing difficult times and a host of challenges while trying to obtain their degrees. We have raised approximately $13,000 to date and given out a total of 13 awards. We hope to grow this fund so that: 1) we can offer more financial relief to students, and 2) we can devote less time and effort to yearly fundraising. Our goal is to move to less than one fundraising event a year.
The IWAU award has also benefitted from generous monthly and one-time donations from UNBC employees, students, and other community members. We have also been generously been provided with promotional space and matching funding associated with on-campus funding drives. We are, of course, open to corporate donations as well and we welcome related inquiries.
We are grateful for all levels and frequencies of support, and we are also fortunate to exist under UNBC’s non-profit/charitable organization tax designation. Tax receipts are issued for all IWAU award donations over $20.
Thank you for considering purchasing tickets for our IWAU event. We hope to see you there!
