President's Speaker Series Welcomes Laurier President

Everyone is invited to join Dr. Deborah MacLatchy, President and Vice Chancellor of Wilfrid Laurier University, who is visiting UNBC’s Prince George campus on Monday, April 23.

Dr. MacLatchy is the featured guest as the next installment of the President’s Speaker Series who will give a presentation entitled, In Leadership as in Science, There Are No Shortcuts, at the Weldwood Lecture Theatre from 2 – 3 p.m.

Dr. MacLatchy was appointed WLU’s President and Vice Chancellor on July 1, 2017. Since joining Laurier in 2007 as dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. MacLatchy has played a leading role in many of the university’s significant initiatives. Among the highlights they include: the development of a new strategic academic plan; the establishment of innovative undergraduate and graduate degrees; the advancement of the university’s research agenda; the launch of the Laurier Institute for Water Science; and the creation and expansion of the Office of Aboriginal Initiatives.

In addition to her role as a senior administrator, Dr. MacLatchy is an active researcher and graduate-student supervisor with a focus on ecotoxicology and comparative endocrinology.

She began her academic career at the University of Winnipeg and the University of New Brunswick and served in a number of senior roles at UNB including Dean of Science, Applied Science and Engineering and director of the International Office.

Dr. MacLatchy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology (honours) from Acadia University, a PhD in zoology from the University of Manitoba, and completed postdoctoral work at the University of Guelph.
