The Northern Medical Program celebrated ten years of teaching future doctors at UNBC in 2015.

A partnership between UNBC and UBC Faculty of Medicine, this distributed medical program was one of the first of its kind in the world. In the decade since the first students arrived on campus in January 2005, the program has been able to achieve a number of successes, including expanding annual intake from 24 to 32 and graduating seven classes.

Currently, around 30% of NMP graduates who have finished their residency and fellowship training, and settled into permanent practice, are working in Northern BC. More than two-thirds in permanent practice are in rural, remote and northern communities.

We look forward to the next ten years, and beyond, in continuing and further developing medical education in the North!
