The Northern Medical Society, University of Northern British Columbia, Prince George Community Foundation, and Northern Health Authority hosted the 11th Annual Dr. Bob Ewert Memorial Lecture and Dinner, in April 2015. This premier lecture and dinner is held annually to honour Dr. Bob Ewert—the first medical specialist in Prince George. The event features a celebrated lecturer and inductions into the Northern Medical Hall of Fame. In addition the Rising Star Award recognizes a current student planning to pursue a professional career in northern health care. A friendraiser and fundraiser, the Ewert lecture supports students in northern medical programs at UNBC, training and retaining future health care professionals.
This annual event supports the Northern Medical Programs Trust, and for UNBC's 25th Anniversary featured:
- Khast'an Drummers of the Lheidli T'enneh
- Rising Star Award Recipient - Christine Kennedy
- Northern Medical Hall of Fame Inductee - Dr. Paul Stent
- Keynote speaker - Lt.-Gen. Romeo Dallaire
- Live music - Serenata
Dallaire’s presentations discussed leadership and conflict resolution, illustrated with stories of his own experiences. He inspired listeners to address the ethical and moral issues in conflicts and insists that governments put humanity above political and economic interests.
