2020/21 Admissions

Admissions are pro​ceeding as normal.

Is the UNBC admissions process proceeding as normal?

Yes, students can still communicate with Admissions as they did previously, although in-person service has been halted. All communication will be over email or phone.

Will there be any delays in my application?

As our admission teams have transitioned to working remotely, there may be slight delays. However, for the most part, the processing of applications will be minimally affected.

Is UNBC still accepting applications for September 2020 and January 2021?

Yes! To see the programs for which we are still accepting applications check out our application deadline page

When can I expect a decision on my application?

The speed of application processing depends on the program and the complexity of the application. For a complete application to our general undergraduate programs (Bachelors of Arts, Commerce, Science, and Planning), you can expect a decision within 2-5 days.

*As always, applicants should be intentional about submitting all required documents and in filling out the application completely and accurately to ensure a quick admissions process. This includes entering interim/ in-progress grades.

Awards and Financial Aid

  • Scholarship and award offers are proceeding, however there have been slight delays to some award categories.
  • There will also be an unclaimed awards competition in the fall.

Have award offer timelines been affected?

Early Entrance award offers have been sent on time. General Entrance award offers have been delayed; first round of offers to go out late-April or early-May. Read more on the Awards and Financial Aid website.

When can early entrance award recipients expect notice?

Our first round of early entrance award offers have been sent.  You may check the status of your award applications by logging into your myUNBC account. To accept your award you will need to submit the "Notification of Award Acceptance" slip that was emailed to you by scanning/emailing a PDF or MS Word document/or a picture attachment to awards@unbc.ca.

The remaining entrance award recipients will be notified starting mid-April.

When can general entrance students expect notice?

The general award recipients (in-course, graduate, and general) will be notified mid-to-late-June.

Will there be an unclaimed awards competition in the fall?

Yes! We will provide more information on unclaimed awards in the fall.

2020/21 Course registration

The Fall and Winter schedules are available for viewing with timetable and instructor information; on June 1, we will open registration for the Fall semester with an updated schedule that will indicate the location and delivery modes for all Fall courses. We will schedule times for the Winter semester, but make decisions about delivery modes at a later date. The schedules may, given the current situation, change.

When will course registration open?

The 2020/2021 course schedule will be open on June 1st for all students. Student Recruitment will be hosting First Year Student Course Registration Sessions in June. Keep an eye on your email for more information about course registration information sessions.

How can I receive help with my registration?

Once registration opens, should you require assistance with registration we are more than happy to help you. The best way to get in contact with us is by emailing futurestudents@unbc.ca or calling 250-960-6306 to request a phone or virtual appointment with a Student Recruitment Officer. We may be able to answer your questions via email. Please include your UNBC Student Number on all correspondence.

Housing

Is the Housing application open?

Yes! Housing Applications are open. You can submit an application by visiting the UNBC Housing website and clicking on “Apply for Housing”. 

Has anything been affected by COVID-19 on Housing application timelines?

At this time there are no changes to Housing application timelines and everything is operating as normal. However, please keep in mind that the situation is changing rapidly and we may need to adjust our approach moving forward.
