Open source software applications are free or low-cost alternatives to commercially available and often expensive applications. In this course, students are introduced to open-source alternatives to the most popular Adobe Creative Cloud design applications. Open-source applications such as GIMP(GNU Image Manipulations Program) Vectr and Scribus provide basic options for digital imaging, creating,/editing graphics, and desktop publishing. While their applications do not offer the full functionality of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign, they are great tools for emerging creatives on a limited budget.
