The University of Northern British Columbia, in conjunction with the School of Education, invites applications for an Academic Director eligible for the rank of Associate or Full Professor (tenured or tenure-track). Reporting to the Dean of the College of Arts, Social and Health Sciences, the Academic Director provides overall leadership to the School of Education to align with the University’s strategic priorities and British Columbia’s mandate, ensuring successful student enrolment and excellent graduates. The Director provides leadership to facilitate strong and vibrant Education programs, for engagement, participation and influence. The Director will work collaboratively with faculty, administrative units and external partners to create a progressive learning, research and community service environment, ensuring outcomes that are met.
The UNBC School of Education is a destination program encompassing certificates, as well as BEd and MEd degrees. It is a dynamic program with particular commitments to a northern and rural focus, and significant opportunities for growth and development throughout our region. Working with our team of committed educators, the Academic Director will provide excellence in leadership to advance the program to its fullest potential.
UNBC’s Academic Director for the School will have demonstrated experience or potential for excellence in academic leadership and collegiality; teaching; outstanding team-work, problem-solving and communications skills; experience working with the K-12 education system; and a significant record as a scholar. Current teacher certification and/or knowledge of the BC curriculum environment would be considered assets. This is a leadership level position and a member of the Senior Leaders Forum (Deans, Directors, Vice-President and select others). This position works closely with external stakeholders including School Districts, the Teacher Regulation Branch, and provincial ministries and to realize the goals and priorities of the School of Education.
