Frequently Asked Questions - Transfer Students
What is your general transfer admission GPA?
- For admission purposes, a minimum transfer grade point average of 2.00 or "C" (65%), calculated based on all previous post-secondary institutions attended, is required.
What is the availability of off campus housing in Prince George? What is the average cost?
- There is an off-campus housing directory available to all students located at the online at nugss.unbc.ca/class. The directory is a current list of rental accommodations.
- There are also listings in the local classified section of The Citizen and the rental accommodation section of the Buy & Sell. Some listings for rental accommodation are also handled by local realtors. UNBC Housing also has a guide to off-campus housing: www.unbc.ca/housing/offcampus.
- Costs range depending on whether it is shared accommodations, an apartment or a house. Number of bedrooms in the suite also factor into the cost. The average range is between $350/month to $900/month.

What is UNBC's reputation?
- Despite
being one of
Canada’s youngest universities, UNBC
has quickly gained a national and international reputation for excellence. Don’t
take our word for it. Maclean’s magazine has ranked UNBC fourth in
Canada – and best in western
Canada – among 22 small universities for the second year in a row.
In 2005 and 2006, the only universities that ranked higher than UNBC were all more than
150 years old. Among the attributes that receive accolades are the professors,
class sizes, and the high quality of the students attending the University.
There are also provincial and national surveys of university students and
graduates. Again, UNBC consistently ranks at or near the top of the list for
student/alumni satisfaction. Finally, national surveys of research activity have
shown that UNBC is even more research-intensive than some universities that have
medical schools, contributing to UNBC’s reputation across Canada and
around the world. Typically, UNBC ranks either first or second in Canada
for its ability to publish research findings. Students are often directly
involved with research, helping to contribute to new discoveries.
What programs/degrees do you offer?
- UNBC offers many degrees, diplomas and certificates.
When should I apply?
- Application deadlines vary depending on each program, though since
UNBC does begin taking applications in September for the following year
it is best to apply as early as possible. You can apply in person,
online, or through the mail for any of the Fall, Spring, or Summer
semesters.
- Note: it is a good idea to apply early so paperwork and the admission process are completed long before registration begins.
