PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades used a long second quarter run to take control and defeat the UNBC Timberwolves 78-67, sweeping a weekend doubleheader at the Northern Sport Centre.

Kayli Sartori, Canada West’s leading scorer, led the Cascades (4-2) with 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Taylor Claggett was strong down low once again, finishing with 17 points and six rebounds while former CCAA All-Canadian Shayna Cameron added 14.

The Timberwolves (0-6) once again got a strong performance from Maria Mongomo, who put up 29 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Hannah Pudlas chipped in with 10 points and three rebounds, while Emily Aase led the Timberwolves with seven rebounds to go along with four points.

Fraser Valley quickly took control of the game, using a 9-0 run midway through the first quarter to jump out to an 18-5 lead. The Timberwolves brought things back a bit toward the end of the quarter, though the Cascades held a 22-13 advantage after 10 minutes.

UNBC came out hot to start the second quarter, using an 11-2 run to bring it back to 24-23 in the first three minutes. However, the Cascades turned it up offensively after that, closing the quarter on a 21-4 run to open up a 45-27 gap at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Cascades work to stretch out the lead even further, building their lead as large as 25 late in the frame before ending it with a 68-44 lead.

UNBC started clawing the deficit back in the fourth quarter, bringing the Fraser Valley lead to within single digits at one point, though it was too little, too late for them to avoid the sweep.

The Timberwolves will complete the 2015 portion of their regular season schedule in Calgary next weekend against the Mount Royal Cougars. They will start the doubleheader on Friday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. Mountain time (5 p.m. Pacific), before playing the back end the next day at 5 p.m. Mountain time (4 p.m. Pacific).
