PRINCE GEORGE – He had the attention of many schools in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association, but Adam Pahl knew the University of Northern British Columbia was the choice, committing to the men’s basketball program for the 2017-2018 season.

The six-foot-six Pahl, a product of Foothills Composite in Okotoks, Alta., played his club basketball for the Genesis program. The forward cited his visit to UNBC as a major factor in his decision to join head coach Todd Jordan’s program.

“It was a very unique experience. Todd and all the players really made me feel like I was at home. I knew right then it was the place for me. I went on other visits, but I knew no other school had the atmosphere and opportunities that UNBC did,” says Pahl, who has applied for UNBC’s chemistry program, in hopes of one day becoming a chemistry teacher.

Jordan says Pahl’s versatility will be a huge asset to the UNBC lineup.

“He is a very good athlete,” he says. “He is going to add length to our lineup, and he is clearly a very gifted scorer.”

Jordan added that character and commitment are paramount in his recruiting process. They are qualities Pahl is not lacking.

“Adam is type of person we want to join this program,” Jordan says. “He really believes in hard work and is truly committed to being the type of teammate and type of person off the floor that we want to represent our program and our University.”

Under the direction of Eddie Richardson at Genesis Basketball, Pahl established himself as one of the finest players in Alberta, combining great range, with strong play in the paint. Jordan originally identified Pahl at a Genesis tournament.

“Genesis is one of the top basketball clubs in Western Canada,” Jordan says. “They’ve done a great job of developing their players, and connecting them to university coaches.

“It was clear Adam was one of the best players in the tournament, and Eddie had nothing but good things to say about Adam. That was huge to the process in bringing Adam to UNBC.”

Pahl graduates from Foothills Composite in June, where he is averaging more than 20 points per game in his Grade 11 and Grade 12 years.

“I feel like I can do damage from anywhere,” Pahl. “I am comfortable anywhere on the floor, whether that be outside, posting up, or taking guys off the dribble. I am extremely thankful and excited to be a Timberwolf.”

Jordan and the Timberwolves echo that sentiment, anticipating the impact addition.

“Adam is one of the biggest signings in our U Sports history, and we couldn’t be happier to have him join our program.”
