PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. -- The University of Saskatchewan Huskies scored early and often and did not look back as they knocked off the UNBC Timberwolves 89-59 Friday night at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.

Huskies Assistant Coach Chad Jacobson said his team used their height to their advantage against an undersized UNBC roster.

“Our bread and butter is to pound the ball inside and play through Shane (Osayande) and Matt (Forbes),” Jacobson said. “They draw double teams which allows us to get open shots and good looks from the outside."

The Huskies opened up an early seven-point lead, as Todd Jordan’s squad struggled to contain the visitors’ length.  Lawrenece Moore had seven points in the first quarter to pace the Saskatchewan attack.

Moore continued to roll in the second quarter, completing the first half with 14 points and 4 boards. The T-Wolves, however, hung around, trailing by just 12 at half-time.

Nonetheless, UNBC Head Coach Todd Jordan was not pleased with his team’s energy level.

“It was pretty unacceptable from everybody tonight. I don’t know if we were down on ourselves after a tough series last week at UBC, but our energy level was very low tonight.”

In the second half, Saskatchewan went to their bench, and continued to get contributions from their entire roster. All but two Huskies hit the score sheet on the game.

Quarter four saw the Huskies continue to utilize their length, pounding the ball down low. The Saskatchewan reserves dictated play in the paint, and the Huskies came away with an 89-59 victory.

Moore finished the night with 24 points, six assists, and three rebounds to pace the visitors. Jacobson says his hard work has been paying off for him this season,

“He really stepped up his game, and it doesn’t surprise us, he is a very talented kid, and he competes.”

The Huskies improve to 14-6 on the season, while the Timberwolves drop their 11th in a row, and fall to 4-15.

These teams meet again Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the final game of the regular season at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.
