CALGARY – A hat trick from Dominic Russo (Calgary, Alta.) fuelled the Calgary Dinos offence en route to a 4-0 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves on Saturday.

Bori Falaye (Calgary, Alta.) also scored and assisted on two of Russo’s markers for Calgary (5-2-0), who outshout UNBC 21-2 in the contest, and 10-0 in shots on goal.

Dominick Zator (Calgary, Alta.) recorded two assists for the Dinos, while Hunter Brett (Calgary, Alta.) picked up the clean sheet without making a save.

Mitch MacFarlane made six saves in a losing effort for the Timberwolves (1-6-0).

Russo kickstarted the Calgary offence in the third minute, pouncing on a rebound off a Falaye shot and beating MacFarlane to the bottom right corner to give Calgary the early one-goal advantage.

Falaye added on in the 14th minute following a solo run down the left side, with a precise shot beating MacFarlane for a 2-0 Calgary lead, which stood until halftime.

The advantage remained two until the 80th minute, when Russo, a CIS Second Team All-Canadian in 2015, struck again from just outside the six-yard box to extend the advantage to three before completing the hat trick in added time, beating MacFarlane to the bottom left corner of the net to complete the scoring.

UNBC will complete its Alberta road trip with a visit to the Mount Royal University Cougars (6-2-1) on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Pacific time, while Calgary will complete its weekend home stand by welcoming the University of Victoria Vikes (3-4-0) on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. Pacific time.
