Risk & Safety Management
There are currently seven University committees which have an
impact on safety and health efforts within their mandate.
To consult in a cooperative spirit to identify and recommend
resolutions to safety and health issues in support of a planned health
and safety program. The University Health and Safety Committee is the
joint committee mandated under BC's WCB regulations and is comprised of
employer and employee representatives.
Emergency Response Planning Committee
In a cooperative spirit to identify and plan for emergencies and
post-emergency situations. To develop, implement and evaluate emergency
and post-emergency contingency plans.
All research or teaching conducted under the auspices of UNBC involving the use
of human subjects, human tissue, human stem cells or data collected on human
subjects must conform to the UNBC Policy on Research Involving Human
Participants and must have the prior approval of the UNBC Research Ethics Board
(REB).
The Lab & Field Safety Committee is a Dean appointed committee
which was established by the interim Dean of the College of Science
& Management for the purpose of formulating strategies to improve
the management of risk and safety in chemical, radiation, fieldwork and biosafety.
Being Canada's Green University recognizes the importance of environmental
sustainability in terms of our teaching, research, campus, and personal
lifestyles. We can and will make improvements. We will be "more green."
The ACUC is responsible for ensuring University-wide understanding of, and
compliance with, all applicable external and internal requirements. Prior to
commencement of research and teaching activities involving the use of animals,
the ACUC must review and approve the activities.
