The British Columbia Rural and Remote Health Research Institute (BCRRHRI) was founded in 2000 to work towards improving the health of people in rural, remote and northern populations.

The only research institute in the province dedicated to rural health issues, the BCRRHRI has four main goals:
  1. To undertake, coordinate and foster practical research concerning the health needs of people living in rural and remote areas;
  2. To advance the understanding of issues in population health, health-care delivery and the education of health practitioners in rural and remote areas;
  3. To assist regions and service providers in moving toward evidenced-based decision making for health service delivery; and
  4. To establish the means for innovative, rapid and widespread dissemination of relevant research information.
The Institute is located at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), within the College of Arts, Social and Health Sciences.
