The
UNBC Survey Research Centre (SRC) offers professional transcription
services. All recordings are transcribed verbatim by trained transcribers and
formatted according to a set of strict guidelines for time stamping of
inaudible tape sections, conversation pauses, laughter, and other items. We are
happy to work with the researcher if they require the transcript to follow a
particular format. All of our transcribers undergo one-on-one training
sessions, are subject to a confidentiality agreement with the SRC and follow strict rules when it comes to handling the files. The
confidentiality agreement can also be extended to the principal investigator of the project, if
requested.
Our current internal (UNBC) transcription rate is $20/hr (equal to $0.33/minute). Our current external transcription rate is $23/hr (equal to $0.38/minute).
On average, 1 hr of recording equals 4-5 hrs of transcription time (depending on the recording quality/number of speakers).
