Any research or study conducted at UNBC facilities (including
at the Quesnel River Research Centre and affiliated research facilities) or
undertaken by persons connected to the University involving human subjects,
animals or biohazardous materials must be reviewed and approved by the
appropriate board or committee, in accordance with UNBC policy and procedures.
All researchers are expected to familiarize themselves with
UNBC policy and procedures relating to research ethics.
While the Research Ethics Board (REB), the Animal Care and
Use Committee (ACUC), will not entertain formal applications for
approval until project funding has been secured, they encourage researchers to
make informal contact with the Chair in order to ascertain if there are likely
ethical considerations which may impact the viability of a proposal or its
budget. For research projects that have yet to be funded, an "Approval in Principle" form is available to assist the researcher in obtaining initial ethical approval for their projects.
The Risk and Safety Management Office and/or the Biological
Safety Officer should be contacted regarding projects involving biohazardous
materials and/or field research for risk management assessments, safety
training and other considerations.
Please note that multiple reviews may be required depending
on the nature of your research project. Contact the Office of Research and/or
the Risk and Safety Management Office for more information on these processes.
