UNBC Embarks on Energy Tour to Promote Success of Programming and Alumni

October 9, 2012
A recent survey of BC university graduates has demonstrated that UNBC annually produces more university grads for northern BC than all other degree-granting institutions combined. The annual baccalaureate grad survey was conducted by the BC Government in 2011 and focused on the grads of 2009. That year, 70% of UNBC’s class of 2009 was living and working in northern BC, and the number was significantly higher than the total produced from UBC, UVic, SFU, Royal Roads, and Thompson Rivers University. UNBC has only 1.9% of the university seats in BC.

The success in producing university grads for northern BC is one of the findings being presented to regional districts and other community officials through the fall by UNBC officials. The presentations began in Terrace and Williams Lake and continue this week in Fort Nelson and Dawson Creek. Future presentations are planned for Burns Lake, Prince George, Prince Rupert, and Ottawa.

The presentations provide an update on UNBC developments, including the opportunity to expand the bioenergy facilities at the Prince George campus and integrate them with housing and food production to demonstrate the foundational elements of community sustainability.

The first presentation this week will be at the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality in Fort Nelson on October 9 at 6 pm. Two days later, the presentation will be given to the Peace River Regional District in Dawson Creek at 11:45 am. Both presentations are open to the public.
