Courses in the North - Spring / Summer

Many regional courses are offered in an intensive one-week format, allowing students to gain full credit for a university course.

These courses utilize the local environment, economy, history, and culture, to create a truly unique learning - and living - experience.

Courses on the Coast - Prince Rupert & Port Edward

Prince Rupert & Port Edward, communities historically reliant on natural resources and currently undergoing significant economic transition, provide an ideal setting for a course in Resource Communities in Transition, which focuses on understanding the past, present and future challenges to resource dependent communities. Courses in English, First Nations Studies, and Political Science are also taught by local experts, UNBC faculty, and other prominent poets, writers, and academics. With all of these characteristics, Courses on the Coast offers students a rich learning environment and a magnificent physical setting.

Courses in the Mountains - Terrace

The Northwest region of British Columbia is the traditional home to many First Nations, including the Tsimshian, Gitxsan, Nisga'a, and Haisla peoples. Interactions with local Elders, Chiefs, and other cultural interpreters, as well as exploration of significant local sites, provide the basis for a unique field-based course in Traditional Use Studies. Courses in Geography and History are also being offered in Terrace. With all of these qualities, Courses in the Mountains provides a rewarding environment in which to learn and a memorable place to visit.

Courses in the Cariboo - Quesnel & Barkerville

Barkerville, a place steeped in BC's goldrush and pioneer history, is the backdrop for a Local History / Methodology course that will have students explore the various connections between Barkerville's own history and that of the rest of the world in the nineteenth century. Courses in English and History are also taught by UNBC faculty and other prominent poets, writers, and academics. With so many opportunities, Courses in the Cariboo offers an exciting, well-rounded experience for students.

Courses in the Peace - Fort St. John & Tumbler Ridge

Courses in Geography and University Preparation are taught by local experts and UNBC faculty. Combining this learning experience with the recreational opportunities and historical richness of the region makes the Courses in the Peace program truly unique.
