Registration errors

While registering, you may come across some error codes that may prevent registration of a section. Below are some of the more common examples:

Prerequisite and Test Score error: This means that you are missing one of the requirements to take this course. You can view the requirements by clicking on the CRN of the course, then the title of the course, and it will list the requirements under “Prerequisites” underneath the Registration Availability.

Linked course required (Laboratory/Lecture/Tutorial/etc.): The section that you’ve selected also needs an accompanying section to be registered with it at the same time (for example, MATH 100 needs registration in a lecture AND a lab section). The type of section that is missing will be listed in the parentheses (Lecture = A, Laboratory = L, Tutorial = T, Practicum = P, Seminar = S). Once you register for the required sections at the same time, the error should resolve itself.

Time Conflict: You are attempting to register for courses that are scheduled at the same time. If there is an extremely small overlap of time, it is sometimes possible to bypass this restriction if the instructors of both courses grant permission. Please see the FAQ for more information.

Class Restriction: Some courses have a requirement of a student being in a certain “year of study,” which is determined by completed credit count, not actual attendance. Under 30 credits = 1st year, 30+ credits = 2nd year, 60+ credits = 3rd year, 90+ credits = 4th year.

Repeat count exceeds 1: This occurs if you’ve taken a course twice already, and attempt to register in it a third time. You will need correct approval to do so in this case: please see our FAQ for more information.

Campus Restriction: This course is not being held at the location that is your primary campus. You can see the campus of the course in its course description. It will need to match the campus that you applied to in order for you to be able to register for that course.

Field of Study Restriction – Major: Some courses require students to be declared in a particular major. If you click on the CRN of the course, and then the title, it will state “Restrictions:Must be enroled in one of the following Majors:” underneath the registration availability. To learn how to declare your major, please see our FAQ.

Instructor’s/Chair’s Approval: Some courses require approval from the instructor or Program Chair. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Level Restriction: This occurs when an undergraduate student attempts to register for a graduate-level course.

Reserve Closed – X on Waitlist: This means the section is currently filled to maximum capacity. Either select another section of the same course, or select Waitlist from the drop-down menu (right next to the error) and hit Submit Changes at the bottom of the screen.

If a student believes they are still able to complete the course successfully, even if they are unable to register for the course due to one of the above registration errors, they can potentially get manually signed into the course with the correct approvals, please see our FAQ for more information.

If you want to register for your courses in person, please stop by the Office of the Registrar. Registration Officers are available to help with both Undergraduate and Graduate course registrations. Undergraduate forms and Graduate forms are both available to be printed and filled out in advance.
