The 'Good Food' Value Chain

Building Capacity of Local Food Systems
in British Columbia

The ‘Good Food' Value Chain research program involves communities in British Columbia in order to build capacity of their local food systems.  A local food system refers to the entire food value chain from the farmer’s field to the dinner plate.  This includes producers, marketing agencies, input industries, processors, retailers, farmers markets, and consumers.

To build the capacity of a local food system means improving markets for local foods, increasing awareness of local food issues, and ensuring equitable access to ‘good food’ for all residents.

Research methods emphasise local participation, local responsibility, and local benefits.
