The Roof

It’s 15 feet from the ceiling to the highest point of the curved roof
The Behlen roof is an architectural gem. It spans 200 feet without a single support column.
The roof of the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre is held together with 750,000 bolts
It took workers 10 weeks to construct the roof.

The Concrete

The main structural columns feature concrete that was poured from the bottom, instead of from the top. This technique saved about 30 days of construction time.
The structural columns around the perimeter of the building are each 40 feet tall.
3500 cubic metres of concrete was used to build the Northern Sport Centre, enough to fill more than 600 concrete trucks.

The Fieldhouse

The fieldhouse can accommodate two indoor soccer field measuring up to 85 x 190 feet each.
The crushed gravel base for the turf in the fieldhouse had to be level within 3 mm spread over a square metre.
The turf features 140,000 blades of “grass” within one square metre.
Each blade of grass in the turf is 40mm tall.

The Track

The rubber surface of the track is 13mm thick.
The elevated track is 30 feet above the ground and features an 80m straightaway. At 280m long, it’s the longest indoor track in BC.
The track was made with 1.8 million pounds of concrete.

The Wood

There are 40 wood beams in the Canfor Plaza, and some of the beams are the largest on the entire campus.
21,300 pieces of wood were assembled to make the floor of the gymnasium.
There are 1600 sheets of plywood under the pilates studio, gymnasium, and squash court floors.

Other Interesting Stats
There are 40,000 bricks on the outside of the Northern Sport Centre.
The heating and air conditioning systems circulate 42,000 cubic feet of air per minute. They’re so big that 768,000 pounds of concrete and steel were used to build the platform on which they’re situated.
When both bleachers are installed, the gymnasium will provide seating for 2080 spectators.
The Northern Sport Centre is roughly 200-feet long by 400-feet wide. It’s big enough to accommodate 5 hockey rinks. Just the size of the entry, offices, sport med clinic and weight room is roughly equivalent to the Wood Wheaton car dealership in Prince George.
The Northern Sport Centre has more than 1000 lights.
