While the North is characterized by its enormous tourism and adventure opportunities, it is also well known for its sports and leisure lifestyle. Residents of Prince George are known to participate in a variety of activities, from slo-pitch leagues and drop-in hockey games, to walks along the Fraser River and playing fetch in Cottonwood Island Park.
Sports & Leisure
Being active with others in the community is a large part of the Prince George lifestyle. The City of Prince George publishes a guide of activities with the changing of the seasons and it's a good place to start planning your extracurricular activities. There are also many ways to get involved in intramural or drop-in sports groups, detailed in the Recreational Sports link below.

Did You Know?
Prince George has more than 150 parks and just over 1700 hectares of green space within city limits. That's more than four times the size of Vancouver's Stanley Park.

Parks & Trails
There are so many parks and trails within Prince George it
would be impossible to list them all. That said, it wouldn't be right to continue without raving about the 30-kilometre trail system that is part of UNBC's Prince George campus. This includes the trails in the Cranbrook Hill Greenway and Forests for the World, which are used by a number of different groups: bikers, walkers, hikers, horseback riders, cross-country skiers, and snowshoers. The UNBC trail system connects to the Otway Nordic Centre, about 25 kilometres away, and a connection to the city is under construction.

| UNBC staff & faculty members often walk the Forests for the World trails on their breaks or after work. |
