Group fitness drop-in classes

Things you need to know

  • All group fitness classes are part of your membership fee.  
  • Pick up your Class Pass at the Front Desk thirty (30) minutes before class time to confirm your spot. One pass per person. No taking a pass(s) to save a spot for others.
  • No classes May 20 (Victoria Day) and 31 (UNBC Convocation).
  • Activities are suitable for all levels of fitness - just do your best. 
  • Class dates/times and instructors are subject to change. They may be cancelled at any time for illness,facility bookings and other activities. Please visit the specific class below, follow us on social media to stay updated. 
  • Please ensure you have scanned in at the Front Desk upon arrival at the facility to allow Zone access. Carry your FOB with you as you move around the Zones.
  • We offer a New Member Facility Orientation every Wednesday.  Meet David in the lobby at 10:00am for your personalized tour - you don't have to pre-register. 

Group fitness classes

Children and youth class access policy

  • Children 13 - 15 can participate with a parent/guardian in attendance.
  • Youth 16 + are permitted without a parent/guardian.
  • Children under 12 are not permitted to participate or sit in on classes. They cannot sit outside the room or in the hallway while their parents participate.

A few things to remember to ensure a positive and respectful experience for everyone:

  • Please limit your use of scents such as perfume and cologne when attending these classes.
  • Drop in fitness classes are closed to late arrivals. This prevents disrupting the instructor and the participants.
  • Outdoor shoes are not permitted in the fitness areas.

Athletic Yoga

Tuesday: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Led by Denise, Athletic Yoga, or power yoga, combines traditional poses with strength training and cardio for a dynamic and intense workout. Classes focus on continuous, flowing sequences that enhance strength, flexibility, and endurance.


Boomer Fit

Monday: 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 10:30 a.m. - 11:25 a.m. (Class cancelled April 10)

Age is just a number in this fun and popular class for those 50+! Grab a friend (or meet a new one!) as you exercise your way to fitness or an improved fitness level using weights, bands and more. Led by Rebecca in Zone 6, if you have medical issues that have limited your fitness activity, join us!


Cardio Dance

Tuesday and Thursday: 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  (All classes are cancelled April 9 - 18).

Dance your way to fitness with the motivating Latin moves and music of Merengue, Samba, Salsa and more. Join Paz in Studio 1 - no dance experience required!


Core Fit

Tuesday: 7:05 p.m. - 7:35 p.m.
Saturday: 10:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.  (Class cancelled April 13, April 20, April 27)

Jon Lon in Zone 6 for this 30-minute blast to your mid-section will improve posture, increase balance and reduce back pain. A combination of plyometric cardio and core stability routines will find those abs you forgot you had!


Cycle Fit  

Monday: 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. 

This high intensity class will challenge your cycling performance, cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance. If you want to take your cycle fitness to a higher level, this is your class.

Cycle Fit is suitable for riders fresh off the training wheels as well as those seeking a new challenge. David teaches this popular morning class up in Zone 6.


Cycle 'n Core

Monday: 5:00 p.m - 6:00 p.m. 

Join Rebecca in Zone 6 for this combination of Cycle Fit and Core Fit! 35 minutes of cycling and 20 minutes of core work on the floor will jump-start your week and build cardio and strength.


Fit Camp

Tuesday: 9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m.and 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Northern Sport Centre's signature boot camp will take amp up your fitness using an interval-based workout. No drill sergeants, but all the hard-core conditioning you can handle. Head up to the Track and train with cutting edge methods and equipment to create a healthier you. Lon teaches Tuesday night and Saturday and Charlene on Tuesday morning.


Gentle Yoga

Monday: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Gentle Yoga is a great class if you are new to yoga or feel the need for a more restful approach. This slower pace allows for personal guidance while building a foundation to improve your strength and balance. 


Hatha Yoga Flow

Monday: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

This introductory yoga class will explore some foundational asanas (yoga poses). Led by Denise, you will learn about the benefits and proper alignment in the basic yoga postures and be introduced to pranayama and meditation.


HIIT Bootcamp

Wednesday and Friday: 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.
Thursday: 12:00 p.m. - 12:50 p.m.

Get ready to sweat! This high intensity interval training class consists of circuit type training that incorporates cardio, resistance training, and core, all in a fast faced, feel the burn workout! Love the workout, love the results as led by Jocelyn, Charlene and David up in Zone 6.


Nia Dance Fit

Monday and Wednesday: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Nia is a fun, energizing and inspirational fitness experience! Join Kathleen in Studio 1 for this unique blend of dance, martial arts & the healing arts, with a variety of eclectic music and simple, creative, choreography.


POUND Unplugged

Thursday: 12:00pm - 1:00pm 

A workout designed for your mental health that blends high-intensity training with rhythmic breathing, mindfulness and meditation. POUND Unplugged will make you sweat, release, and boost neurochemicals before quickly settling back into a peaceful, recharged, and empowered state.


Restorative Yoga

Friday: 12:00 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.

Restorative Yoga is a practice of floor postures that are held for a longer period of time. These poses are supported with props, such as folded blankets, bolster, and blocks in order to gently open within the body. Led by Vivian, some of the wonderful benefits include deep body relaxation, stilling a busy mind, central nervous system re-set, muscle tension relief and improved flexibility.


Strength n' Conditioning

Thursday: 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m (April 11 class moved to Zone 7)

This class uses dumbbells, kettlebells and your own body weight to increase strength, flexibility and cardio. Head up to Zone 6 with Rebecca for an energizing workout with other like-minded participants!


STRONG Nation 

Tuesday: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. 

Stop counting the reps. Start training to the beat. STRONG Nation® combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. Led by Sherry, every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music, helping you make it to that last rep, and maybe even five more.

In each class you'll burn calories while toning arms, legs, abs and glutes. Plyometric or explosive moves like high knees, burpees, and jumping jacks are interchanged with isometric moves like lunges, squats, and kickboxing. STRONG Nation™ instructors change up the music and moves frequently to make sure you’re always challenged to the max.


Tai Chi

Tuesday and Thursday: 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.  (All classes are cancelled April 9 - 18). 

You will calm your mind, improve balance and connect with your “chi” the force that Chinese philosophy believes animates the body. Paz follows the 24 Simplified Yang Style derived from the Taoist principle and Chen Style of Tai Chi.


TRX

Thursday: 9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m.

Curious about the yellow rope-like bands attached to our walls? Using suspension and body weight, TRX was created for Navy SEALS and Army Rangers. Join Charlene up in Zone 6 and see why they use it to condition themselves into the best warriors and athletes on the planet!


Yin Yoga

Monday and Wednesday: 10:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

Make time to restore, relax and return to your breath through a slow, nourishing practice led by Vivian. In the practice of Yin, allow your body to passively release into deeper relaxation and flexibility.


Yin Yoga Fusion 

Friday: 10:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. 

Vivian leads this balance and blend of active yoga and a gentle flow. Combining a passive side of Yin Yoga and a softening and surrender deep into the connective tissues, this class is a well-rounded practice and open to all levels.


Yoga

Wednesday: 12:00 p.m. - 12:55 p.m.

Join Vivian as she leads the ancient practice of uniting your breath and physical posture. Acquire improved flexibility, balance, strength and mental clarity. Yoga is for all levels and abilities. Classes range in style depending on the instructor’s teaching practice. No previous yoga experience is necessary!


Zumba

Tuesday and Thursday: 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Zumba is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party™!  Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Dawn teaches Tuesday and Benita on Thursday.
