Dr. Robert Olson
Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, UBC Faculty of Medicine
Academic Physician, Radiation Oncology, Northern Medical Program

Robert Olson grew up in Lloydminster and Calgary, Alberta. He graduated from the University of Calgary Medical School, completed his residency at the University of British Columbia in Radiation Oncology, and graduated from the Harvard School of Public Health with a Masters of Science in Epidemiology.
Dr Olson was the first physician hired to the BC Cancer Agency, Centre for the North, which is currently under construction in Prince George, BC. His primary academic interests are focused on improving access to cancer screening, treatment, survivorship care, and palliation, especially in rural and remote communities. This is aided by his affiliations with the University of British Columbia, the University of Northern British Columbia, the Canadian Centre for Applied Research, and the BC Cancer Research Centre. He is involved in several projects designed to reduce side effects, and improve the safety and quality of radiotherapy. He is also the local PI for the NCIC SC 23 clinical trial, and the provincial PI for the RTOG 0937 clinical trial. Clinically, he currently treats breast, lung and head and neck malignancies, spending most of his time at the Vancouver Cancer Centre as he eagerly awaits the opening of the BCCA's Centre for the North.
