A graduate from Dundee University in Scotland, David lived in the northern highlands for 10 years where he trained and subsequently practiced as a family practitioner in the small rural community of Beauly.

In 1991, after completing an MClSc in Family Medicine at the University of Western Ontario, he returned to academic practice at the University of Dundee as Senior Lecturer, Director of Postgraduate General Practice Education and most recently, Acting Postgraduate Dean. During his time at Dundee, he helped increase the family medicine curriculum time from 3% to 10%, completed his doctoral thesis (MD) on reflective learning methods, established the Scottish MSc in primary care and researched patient medicine taking behaviours and revalidation methods for Family Doctors.

David returned to Canada in the summer of 2003, where he was appointed to lead the development of the Northern Medical Program at UNBC. He has been involved in all aspects of the expansion including new staff appointments, selection of students, talking to physicians and community members, advising on the new building and developing the curriculum framework with UBC.

An avid mountaineer, biker and skier, David and his wife Moira really enjoy living in Prince George and exploring the northern BC's vast wilderness and recreational opportunities.
