The Northern Medical Program is part of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Along with the Island Medical Program at the University of Victoria and the Southern Medical Program at UBCO in Kelowna, BC (which will be accepting students in January 2012), this distributed medical program was the first of its kind in North America and has proven to be a highly successful model of distributed education. Through UBC's Admissions Office, thirty-two medical students are welcomed into the NMP every year and arrive at the beautiful University of Northern British Columbia campus each January. 

First year NMP students Rena Ramina and Sita Ollek have started a local chapter of The Aboriginal Health Initiative which is aimed at increasing awareness and educating future healthcare professionals in various aspects of Aborigianl Health.
