MSOC: Men's soccer travel south for spring friendlies

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The men's soccer team travelled down south over the weekend to get in two spring friendlies. The Timberwolves tied Trinity Western on Friday and beat the UBC Okanagan Heat on Saturday.

On Friday afternoon the Timberwolves men's soccer team took on the Trinity Western Spartans in their third spring friendly this year. A long bus ride to Langley, BC may have left the Twolves a bit tired but it did not show on the field. The game resulted in a 1-1 draw with goal from third year midfield Brett Bobier (Prince George, BC). Head coach Alan Alderson was quick to praise the efforts his young squad put forward.

“I was very excited about the heart we played with today.  We were able to get behind them to create some great chances and we collectively made it difficult for them to score with our commitment to team defending when they got close to our area.  This is a great result for us on the road and shows the continued positive progress of our very young team" said Alderson after the game.

After the game it was back on the bus for the Twolves and over to Kelowna. On Saturday UNBC faced off in their second game of the weekend against the UBC Okanagan Heat. In the 49th minutes Conrad Rowlands (Chilliwack, BC) was first to find the back of the net off a corner kick from Tofa Fakunle (Calgary, AB). Bradnon Wallace (Chilliwack, BC) notched the second goal for the Twolves after a ricochet shot hit both posts before sealing past the keeper in the 78th minute.

"I'm extremely proud of the heart and work rate our guys showed over the last couple weekends after a tough travel schedule. To get three results in four road games with so many first year players in the line up is a great indication of how promising the future looks for our young team and our young program.  We are all really looking forward to the fall season and can't wait for it to get here," siad coach Alderson after their second game.

The UNBC men's soccer team finished their four game spring schedule with two wins, a tie, and a loss - all on the road.
