MBB: Timberwolves set to take on Thunderbirds in quarterfinal



















PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The UNBC Timberwolves enter their first postseason tonight against the UBC Thunderbirds. The Timberwolves will take to the court in a best of three game series February 26-28.

The UNBC men’s basketball team will be looking to big men Franco Kouagnia to help lead them in the playoff series. Kouagnia leads the Timberwolves in scoring averaging 16.4 points per game. The Canada West second team all-star is also averaging 7.7 rebounds per game. He has established himself as a dominant player as well as an integral part of the Timberwolves offense. Helping Kouagnia will be transfer guard Rhys Elliott. Elliott’s sharp shooting has brought the Timberwolves back from behind multiple times. Averaging 15.3 points per game the Twolves will be looking for Elliott to score from behind the arc.

The UBC Thunderbirds have been led all season by Canada West first team all-star Tommy Nixon. Nixon not only leads his team but the conference is points per game at 20.8, he also leads the conference with 50 percent shooting from the three-point line. A solid cast including Tonner Jackson, Conor Morgan, and Kedar Wright, all of which are averaging double-digits per game, backs Nixon.

After a bye week the Timberwolves are eager to hit the court again. Games are played at War Memorial Gym on UBC campus. The best of three series will be played Thursday, February 26 at 7 p.m., Friday, February 27 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, February 28 at 7 p.m. if needed. All games can be viewed live at canadawest.tv
