Call for Proposals:
Rosenbluth Internship in Policy Research

Deadline: Sunday March 1, 2015 @ 11:59pm

The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives – BC Office (CCPA-BC) is currently accepting applications for the annual Rosenbluth Internship in Policy Research. This recurring award provides mentorship and financial support for a graduate student to conduct an original research project on public policy as it relates to social, environmental or economic justice.

The CCPA’s research priorities include: inequality and economic security, climate justice, enhancing democracy and governance, and strengthening public services. We are particularly interested in proposal topics that address: job creation and the role of government, regional economic development/job creation, economic security for youth and marginalized populations, low-wage work and job quality, progressive tax reform, solutions to income inequality, trends in government funding for various public services (and their impacts), ways to democratize public policy decision-making, and how to increase voter turnout. But proposals addressing other topics are also welcome. To receive consideration, proposals must connect to public policy issues, either within BC or nationally.

The successful applicant will work on a research project of her or his own design under the supervision of senior CCPA researchers, and will receive $6,000 to cover approximately 240 hours of work time. Where appropriate, the resulting paper will be released as a CCPA publication.

To apply submit the following (as a single PDF if possible) to <thi@policyalternatives.ca> before midnight on Sunday March 1:
• a proposal outlining your research idea including overview, background, methods and workplan/timeline (1-2 pages, single spaced, 11-point font)
• a resume or CV
• one reference letter

Note that the internship will likely commence in May (although we are open to a later start) and will run for a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 32 weeks; applicants should set their timelines accordingly.

NB: Short-listed candidates will be interviewed the morning of Tuesday, March 17.

Eligibility:
The intern must be registered as a graduate student for the duration of the internship, and must be able to work out of the CCPA’s BC Office, located in downtown Vancouver.
