WBB: Timberwolves fall in double header with Griffins

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The MacEwan University Griffins swept the series 4-0 against the UNBC Timberwolves after a 75-62 win on Saturday night. The Griffins improve to 12-4 while the Timberwolves drop to 2-14.

The Griffins were led by fourth year forward Kelly Fagan (Vancouver, BC) with 22 points and seven rebounds. Kendall Lyndon (Chehalis, WA) complimented Fagan’s performance with 20 points and nine assists of her own.

The Timberwolves were once again led by Vasiliki Louka (Athens, GRE) who scored a team high 13 points and eight rebounds. Rookie guard Sarah Buckingham (Surrey, BC) had a strong outing off the bench providing energy and hustle contributing to her 11 points.

Just like the previous outing, both teams came out hot, with both teams shooting 45% from the field. Kelly Fagan (Vancouver, BC) dropped 11 points in the opening quarter, and dominated the glass with five rebounds. The Timberwolves spread the ball around, and managed points from both the bench and starters. The Griffins pulled away in the second quarter thanks to a 12-0 run. Lyndon netted eight of her 20 points in the second quarter alone while Fagan led scoring at half with 17 points. Heading into the break the Griffins controlled the game with a 44-29 lead.

Louka was strong in the second half for the Timberwolves netting seven points in the third quarter. Even with the Twolves pushing the pace the Griffins were able to hold their lead. Outscoring UNBC in all but the final quarter. In the end the Griffins came out on top with a 75-62 final over the Timberwolves.

The MacEwan University Griffins return home to host the UBC Okanagan Heat in a double header February 6-7.

The UNBC Timberwolves host their final home games of the season next weekend when they host the UFV Cascades.
