MBB: Timberwolves score provincial caliber recruit

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The UNBC men's basketball team scored when grade 12 stand-out Anthony Hokanson committed to the Timberwolves. Hokanson will join the Timberwolves for his rookie year during the 2015-2016 season.

Anthony Hokanson is currently finishing his grade 12 year at Kitsilano High School, where he is a member of the basketball team. The quad-A (AAAA) school narrowly missed out on provincials last year with a very young squad and is hoping for better results this year.

The Timberwolves newest recruit has three years of BC Provincial Team basketball under his belt at the under-14, under-15 and under-16 level. He also has three years of elite training through Basketball BC's Centre of Performance, commonly known as CP. Hokanson participated in the invitational CP program in grades 9, 11, and 12. At 6'4, Hokanson has the size and the skill to compete in the Canada West league that the UNBC coaching staff is excited to see when he joins his future teammates next year.

"Anthony is a good athlete with size and the ability to shoot the basketball. We are very happy to have him join our program and are excited about his potential to have a major impact on our program in the future" said head coach Todd Jordan.

As for Anthony he is looking to build up his place on the team and is ready to work hard for the green and gold.

"I think I can be a good fit for the program and good off the bench, but I want to build up my role on the team and hopefully help taken us to a CanWest championship" said Hokanson.

Even though he is from the Vancouver area Hokanson isn't too worried about his move to Prince George. The campus and the Northern Sport Centre were enough to sell Hokanson that he is willing to deal with the winter.

"The campus is really nice, and I got a chance to see your new cafeteria which is a good selling point. What really sold me on UNBC was the Sport Centre. You have an indoor track, soccer field, and three basketball courts, I haven't seen a gym facility that nice" said Hokanson.

As for the winter side of things Hokanson is realistic about the experience, "it's going to be tough, but I think I’ll get used to it."

Hokanson will finish his grade 12 year and join the UNBC Timberwolves in September for the start of the 2015-2016 season. The Timberwolves continue their 2014-2015 campaign as they vie for their first ever post-season run since joining the Canada West, check out unbc.ca/timberwolves for all your Twolves updates.
