Cascades squeak out win over Timberwolves

Abbotsford, BC - The Timberwolves slipped in the fourth quarter giving the UFV Cascades an opening to edge out a 62-60 win. The Timberwolves fall to 0-4 while the Cascades adavnce to 4-0.

The Timberwolves led by as many as 14 points in the third quarter at the Envision Athletic Centre Saturday night, but they struggled offensively in the fourth quarter. The Cascades managed to outscore the Timberwolves 20-9 in the final 10 minutes.

Dominque Brooks sparked the comeback – the shooting guard from Seattle, Wash. registered a team-high 16 points in 7-of-12 shooting from the field, and helped keep his team afloat during some prolonged scoring droughts. Vijay Dhillon knocked down a pair of crucial three-pointers late in the fourth quarter, and Nate Brown scored the go-ahead basket on a hook shot with 36 seconds left in regulation.

A steal with just over 13 seconds left to play gave the Timberwolves possession but the Cascades came out on top after Franco Kouagnia’s potential game-tying jumper came up short at the buzzer.

Rhys Elliott (16 points, seven rebounds) set the pace offensively for the T-Wolves, while Michael Smith (13 points) and Kouagnia (12 points) also scored in double figures.

The Timberwolves return to Prince George for their home opener against the Mount Royal Cougars Nov 21-22 while the Cascades travel to Kamloops to take on the TRU WolfPack.
