Timberwolves work out kinks in preseason game with Spartans

Hannah Pudlas drives against Trinity Western

Prince George, BC -The UNBC Timberwolves women's basketball team started their exhibition season against the Trinity Western Spartans. The Spartans defeated the Timberwolves 66-59 Thursday night at the Northern Sport Centre.

For the Timberwolves the exhibition season is a chance to work out some of the kinks and try out different combinations, they did just that tonight. Starting slow the home side found themselves trailing by 10 points early in the first quarter and it would be another couple minutes before two quick baskets by second year Emily Aase brought them back into the mix. After being down as much as 14 a 7-0 run bounced the Timberwolves back to within six points of the visitors.

Kristen Ford was consistent for the Spartans working in tandem with second year forward Kayla Gordon. The duo netted a combine total of 22 points throughout the game. Down the stretch Gordon was key in keeping the Spartans ahead, scoring off from the elbow off three isolations plays during the fourth quarter.

At the end of the game the Spartans head on to a narrow 66-59 lead. Kristen Ford led Trinity Western with 12 points, with Kayla Gordon adding in 10 points and six rebounds. Sarah Robin was the high scorer for the game netting 17 points and five rebounds, first year post player Vasiliki Louka chipped in eight points and seven boards.

Both teams take the court again tomorrow night, tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
