MSOC: Timberwolves use depth to down WolfPack

Prince George, BC - The UNBC men's soccer team defeated the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack 4-1 in exhibition play on Saturday afternoon. Conrad Rowlands, UNBC rookie forward, netted two second half goals for the Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves were first on the board with a goal from Cheona Edzerza (Prince George, BC) in the 19th minute. Josh McAvoy (Abbotsford, BC) used his speed to gain ground down the side line, then fired a ball from the right corner directly in front of the right post, Edzerza came across the box and was able to tip the ball past the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) keeper. Tofa Fakunle (Calgary, AB) scored the Timberwolves second goal in the 40th minute, giving UNBC a 2-0 lead heading into the half.

Nathan Hawe was the one to break to the draught for the WolfPack. Within the first minute of the second half Hawe fired a long ball from outside the box that sailed just past the Timberwolves keeper. The goal from Hawe put the WolfPack on the board, 2-1.

Rookie duo Conrad Rowlands (Chilliwack, BC) and Brandon Wallace (Chilliwack, BC) were instrumental in the Timberwolves two second half goals. In the 74th minute a ball from Wallace set up Rowlands, the TRU keeper was able to block Rowlands first attempt but not the second. Rowlands second goal came only three minutes later when he finished on a cross ball sent from Wallace.

At the final whistle the UNBC Timberwolves finished 4-1 over the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack. Both teams return to the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League Fields again on Sunday, August 31 - kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
