Timberwolves adds soccer to summer sport camp line-up

Prince George, BC - For the sixteenth year in a row the UNBC Timberwolves are offering sport camps for budding athletes. For the first time camps will be offered in both varsity sports - soccer and basketball.

Basketball camps at UNBC have become a staple in the summer camp circuit. Geared towards both the basketball enthusiast and the novice player, the UNBC camps have always been able to accommodate any skill level. With 16 years under their belt the UNBC Athletics department has carved out a niche for themselves in the realm of basketball camps but have only ever offered their services to the basketball community. This year for the first time soccer will be added to the camp line-up.

Led by Athletics and Recreation Summer Assistant Luke Holmes, the Timberwolves sport camps aim to develop skill as well as an interest in the campers' sport of choice. Holmes is a member of the UNBC Timberwolves men's soccer team and was a part of the Duchess Sr. Boys basketball team that won the 2013 City Championships. With knowledge and a passion for both soccer and basketball Holmes is extremely excited for the summer camp season to start.

"I remember attending the Timberwolves basketball camps was I was younger, now I get to share the knowledge I have in both soccer and basketball with the up and coming athletes in Prince George and the North," said Holmes.

The camps will have a bit of a different feel this year as well. In past years the basketball camps have only been four days long but the staff have added an additional day, camps will now run Monday-Friday. With the additional day campers will receive extra exposure to their sport of choice as well as more time working with UNBC Timberwolves varsity coaches and athletes.

"Our goal this summer is for the kids to take what they learn here and apply it to their own sports teams and we believe that this extra day will benefit all our campers," said Holmes. "The addition of Friday to the camp schedules will give our campers more time to work with our highly skilled coaches and our talented athletes."

Both the basketball and soccer camps are for children grades 2-10 and all skill levels. There will also be an elite girls basketball camp at the end of the summer. For more information on camp dates, pricing or special offers visit the Timberwolves sport camp webpage.
