What Is Mini Med School?

Dr. John CohenBack in 1989, the "Mini Med School" concept was the brainchild of Dr. J. John Cohen, MD, PhD who hails from McGill University, Montréal, but was working at the University of Colorado (CU) in Denver at the time. He wanted a way to showcase to the public the teaching and learning happening at CU medical school.

NMP lecture hallIt did not take long for the mini med school idea to spread across North America and the world.  The first Canadian mini med school premiered at McGill University in the fall of 2001.  There are now well over 100 medical school programs in North America that offer various versions of mini med schools, with new ones (like ours!) starting up every year.

A "Mini Med School" consists of a series of entertaining presentations (as opposed to boring lectures) that build on one another.  You learn about basic sciences, medicine, research, the patient experience, and so much more.  If you have ever wanted to get a taste of medical school – but without the long hours and hard work – this is your chance!
