What is an Employee Assistance Program?
This program is a pro-active option for helping employees and their
families manage their personal health & happiness through a totally
confidential, professional counselling service for a broad range
of personal and family problems. Counselling is provided through
the Wilson Banwell network - a group of provincially registered
psychologists with extensive experience helping individuals and
operates under the strictest confidence by law. UNBC's plan allows
an eligible employee and their dependents to receive up to 12 hours
of counselling services per year. For emergency services or to book
appointments, Wilson Banwell counsellors can be reached at 1-800-663-1142.
An EAP brochure detailing this program is available at Human Resources.
How do I submit an expense claim to DA Townley
for reimbursement?
Pick up a copy of the DA Townley claim form from Human Resources or download the form from our Forms page, complete all of the relevant information, attach originals of bills
or receipts to this form and mail it directly to DA Townley at the
address indicated on the form. Ensure you keep copies of all
your receipts before submitting your claim.
When is my coverage effective?
It is important to note that most supplemental benefits are effective
the date you begin your employment. However, the dental benefit
has a three month waiting period.
How do I contact DA Townley to get information
on a claim or clarify my benefits?
You can call DA Townley directly at their toll-free number: 1-800-663-1356.
Is there a limit to eligible drugs and medicines
I can claim?
There may be a limit... it is advisable that you call DA Townley
to verify if you are uncertain. No amount is payable for any drug
or medicine which is experimental or which has not been approved
for use by the Ministry of Health & Welfare Canada.
Does our extended health care cover orthopaedic
shoes?
Yes... but is limited in each calendar year to a maximum benefit
of $250.00.
Am I covered under our UNBC extended health
care plan if I am travelling outside of the country?
DA Townley will pay benefits for emergency charges for medical care
that is medically necessary and occurs while the insured employee
is travelling outside of Canada. However, the illness must be unforeseen
and there are exceptions and limitations to this benefit and it
is advisable that you clarify your benefits with DA Townley before
you travel. Med Assist wallet cards are available in the Human Resources
Department.
If I have to get medical assistance outside
of Prince George for either myself or my eligible dependents, are
travel expenses covered?
Only in the case of an emergency, where for example you or your
eligible dependent are air-evacuated to a center outside of Prince
George, MSP will only partially cover the travel costs of the person
being air-evacuated and you will be billed for the remainder. Extended
Health benefits will cover air ambulance charges. Once the injured
or sick person is released from care, none of the travel expenses
to return to Prince George are covered.
What is the maximum amount I can claim for
vision care?
DA Townley will pay 100% up to the maximum amount of $500.00 for
eligible vision charges in any 24-month period (12-month period
for a dependent child under 19 years of age). There is no deductible
for this benefit. Some visual services are not covered and you should
confirm these services with DA Townley. It is important to
note the waiting period is measured by the date of purchase on the
receipts. Do not purchase new vision care until the full waiting
period has lapsed.
Is there a limit to my dental expense claims?
Yes... DA Townley will pay up to a maximum amount per calendar year
of $1,500.00 for eligible expenses. There is no deductible amount
for this benefit. Reimbursement amounts for preventive services
is 100%, for restorative services is 100% and for major restorative
services is 100%. A description of eligible preventive, restorative
and major restorative services is listed in the DA Townley Dental Care booklet available from Human Resources. However, we recommend
that you have your dentist obtain a pre-treatment estimate from
DA Townley for major restorative work as additional costs may apply, and to ensure work will be approved.
What is my dependent child's orthodontic coverage?
The lifetime maximum amount is $3000.00 with no deductible amount
and the reimbursement amount is 65% payable by DA Townley. A pre-treatment
estimate of charges IN ADVANCE of treatment is required.
What do I do if my Drug Card does not
work at a pharmacy?
Drug Cards may not work if your information has been incorrectly
keyed in by either the Pharmacist or by DA Townley upon enrollment
of this benefit. Ask your Pharmacist to re-enter the data
and if there are no results, contact the Human Resources Department
as soon as possible.
If you incur a prescription expense at a pharmacy that does not
have a drug card system, you may claim your receipts on a manual
drug claim form available in the HR department or download the appropriate claim form from our Forms page.
Do Drug Cards cover all eligible claims
on EHB?
No... the drug card is limited to drugs and medicines
which legally require a prescription. For a further breakdown,
refer to your DA Townley booklet under "Pay-Direct Drug Benefit".
Please note: As of August 1, 2004, Faculty are no longer provided with
drug cards and must submit their claims on an Extended Health Benefits
Claim form.
How does it work if my partner also has
benefits through his/her employer?
There is a detailed brochure on Coordination of Benefits
available in the HR Department. This brochure includes an
explanation of how children claims are processed when coordination
of benefits exist.
Why did I have to pay the full amount
the last time I used my drug card?
There is a $25.00 deductible for single accounts and a $50.00
deductible for Family accounts, per calendar year. Employees
may notice that the first claims processed in a calendar year will
not be reimbursed af the full 80% until the appropriate deductible amount
has been fulfilled.

I am leaving BC for an extended period of time?
