The landlord has responsibilities to the tenant and these are outlined in the Residential Tenancy Act or are agreed upon in the lease or contract.

 

These responsibilities include:

• Maintaining the residence according to local and provincial building codes.
  
• Providing the necessary facilities to supply heat, electricity, hot and cold water.
  
• Keeping electrical, plumbing and heating systems in good repair, and maintaining any appliances which are included within the accommodation.
