The following are just some questions that you may consider asking prior to renting:

 

Payments	How much is the rent? When is it due? Is a damage deposit required? When does it have to be paid?
Lease/Agreements	Is there a lease? If so, what is the the length of the lease? Is there a penalty for breaking the lease?
Security	Are there good quality locks or dead bolts on the doors? Do the windows lock? Does the building have a security system? Who are the neighbours? What is the neighbourhood like? How close are the bus stops? Is there adequate outside lighting?
Parking	Is parking available and is there an additional cost?
Laundry	Availability of laundry facilities - any restrictions or extra costs?
Furnishings	Bed, desk, chair, lighting/outlets, bookshelves, closet space, is it comfortable? What decorating can you do?
Telephone use	Privileges, conditions of long distance, private lines.
Transportation	Busing, biking or walking to the University, grocery stores, shopping, etc.
