Awards, Scholarships, and Distinction Introduction

Please note: students will not be eligible for consideration for any awards unless their administrative paperwork is up to date and their account is in good standing.

The Office of Graduate Programs (OGP) assists with many external, (and some internal) funding sources.

Specifically the OGP provides assistance with preparation of graduate and certain undergraduate and postdoctoral applications to federal and provincial granting agencies, such as the Tri Councils (NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR). Additionally we can assist with scholarship applications including Canada Graduate Scholarships (Master’s and Doctoral), Undergraduate Student Research Awards (NSERC) and Vanier Scholarships.

The OGP also facilitates internal award competitions, including the Doctoral Dissertation Completion Award and Research Project Award.

A variety of other scholarships exist, and the OGP provides competition notifications via our office’s grads-admin listserv. You are encouraged to register for this listserv so that you don’t miss any notices of which our office is apprised. You are also encouraged to talk to the OGP directly about other opportunities. A database exists at Scholarships Canada to help students research other awards, not specific to UNBC and often not adjudicated by the Office of Graduate Programs. You are welcome to visit the OGP in order to see where and when other funding opportunities exist.

Progress Report Reminder

Students receiving scholarships must submit a Progress Report to the Office of the Dean of Graduate Programs two months prior to the renewal date of the scholarship.
