Create a Student Award

Your gift to create a student award will increase access to education by reducing financial barriers and encouraging academic excellence.

Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards

Awards provide encouragement to students, often make a university degree achievable, support student success, and recognize excellence. Donors like you are influencing UNBC’s ability to attract and retain students from the region, and around the globe. Your gift can truly make a difference for years to come.

Scholarships reward students based on academic merit
Bursaries support students facing financial barriers
Awards are a blend between scholarships and bursaries

Annual Awards

With a gift as little as $1,000 per year, and an initial commitment of three to five years, you can establish an annual award with criteria that reflects your passion to support students. Funding can be provided on an annual basis or in one lump sum.

Endowed Awards

Donors can establish an endowed award with a commitment of contributing a minimum of $30,000 over the next three to five years. This type of award ensures students become beneficiaries of your generosity each and every year — in perpetuity. This type of award is a great way to make an impact today, tomorrow and forever onward! Funds must be held by UNBC for a minimum of one year which allows the principal investment to accumulate enough interest for the first student award. If you would like the award to be given to a student the year you make the contribution, an additional gift would be required.

Learn more about UNBC's Endowment Portfolio and Investment Policy.

UNBC students are incredibly thankful for your support and are encouraged to provide a letter of appreciation so you are able to see the impact of your gift. We would be pleased to speak with you and learn about how we can facilitate your support of UNBC students.

Make a Legacy Gift

Planning today for a gift tomorrow will honour you and your family while providing a lasting impact on UNBC and our students.

A planned gift can reduce tax obligations from your estate, leaving a greater legacy for your family. There are many ways to plan a gift:

• A bequest is a transfer of property through a will and can ensure your estate provides a specific contribution or a portion of its overall value to UNBC.
• You can name UNBC as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, or name UNBC as the owner of a policy. When you pay premiums for a policy owned by the university, you will receive a charitable tax receipt from us.
• Consider naming UNBC as a beneficiary of any pension plans or registered assets you may have.

Donors who wish to be recognized for their planned or deferred gifts will be included in the UNBC Heritage Circle.
