The Challenge

Environmental and ecological problems are of increasing concern to Canadians. In northern British Columbia, the concerns are especially acute in resource based economies. The Environmental Programs at UNBC seek  to educate students through an interdisciplinary, integrated program of study, to understand the ecological, physical, social, cultural, economic, political, and institutional dynamics of local and global environments. Taking advantage of a spectacular natural laboratory, as well as state of the art facilities, the programs are problem and process oriented with a strong practical focus related to the challenges, context and environment of the North. The programs draw on the expertise of the university community. Students will be prepared for employment in a wide range of rapidly growing environmental fields, including government, industry, research laboratories, academic, nonprofit, planning, engineering, law, education, and entrepreneurial environmental consulting.
