Childcare Centre

  Porcupine Pals Daycare Centre

In order to avoid disruption to the routine for currently registered children and for security reasons, all new inquiries to the Childcare Society are by telephone or e-mail.  Center tours are by appointment only.  Please contact the Manager of Childcare Services for assistance.

Porcupine Pals Daycare Center is licensed for 25 spaces for children 3 to 5 years of age.
We strongly recommend applying for childcare as early as possible as we have limited number of spaces and a long waitlist for those spaces.

Our philosophy that children learn best through play is the foundation for our daily program. Children choose activities that interest them from a variety available every day. The room is set up each day to stimulate curiosity, encourage problem solving and social interaction, and for children to have fun! Just some of the activities available during free play are listed below.

We offer:
  • unstructured art that focuses on the process not the product: one table is set up with a specific activity every morning and afternoon, and another table and the easel is always available for self expression and creation.
  • sensory play: sand, water, rice, cornmeal, playdoh
  • dramatic play opportunities: dress up clothes, housekeeping area, a variety of prop boxes
  • manipulative/construction toys: blocks, duplo, puzzles, pegboards, etc.
  • gross motor play: climbers, balls, tricycles, walks around UNBC, the great outdoors!
  • circle and story times circle: a time for songs, movement activities, science experiments, language games story, books, puppets, flannel board, and the librarian comes once a month
